Monica and Caitlin Brewer, mother and daughter, will be raising two young children together in their home. Monica says, “We have had lots of challenges in finding a safe and stable home to raise children. We need some stability–a place where my children and grandchildren can play outside with their neighbors and friends.” We are praying this opportunity with Habitat will help strengthen our family and support our children growing into beautiful people who enhance our society.”
As a single mom of three, when Monica moved to Champaign from Florida in 1999 she worked various jobs in Central Illinois; living in low income housing situations in both Rantoul and Gifford. Monica was able to complete her Associates degree from Sanford Brown in Tampa Florida, in information technology and is now encouraging her daughter Caitlin to attend Parkland as well. Both Monica and Caitlin work full time at Lowe’s Home Improvement Store in Champaign, and are saving to build upon their dreams with Habitat.
Monica and Caitlin are involved in starting a ministry called Groundzero2groundup asking people to pay it forward to others in the community as they are able. “The hand up that Habitat is providing inspires us to get more people involved in supporting one another. We can learn from each other and lift each other up, if we can thank those who go out of their way for others in their time of need.” Monica continues, “The volunteers who help us build this home will be forever in our hearts. We can’t wait to continue sharing this blessing with others.”
