Serve together in ministry
Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian ministry. Our belief is that all people should have a safe, decent place in which to live. We invite people of all faiths to join our mission to build and renovate simple, decent, and affordable houses. Habitat partnerships provides a “hand up” to increase the strength, stability, and self-reliance of families in our community.
Put faith into action
Our mission is about tearing down walls and building bridges. It is about offering hope and transforming lives. It is about serving God by serving others.
The “Theology of the Hammer” has long been a way to heal divided communities. Habitat’s work is the common ground for interfaith efforts with the entire community. Habitat for Humanity International has been leading interfaith poverty housing advocacy in the U.S. and around the world for many years. Interviews with various faith leaders have unanimously confirmed that the major monotheistic religions—Islam, Judaism, and Christianity—have strong theological calls to care for the poor, and have traditions that make shelter central to that calling. Interfaith efforts are an opportunity to join together to eliminate poverty housing in the community.
