Rowry Family

Home #148

Jovanie Rowry has always hoped to provide her family with a forever home where they can feel safe and stable. As a Chicago native, she is grateful for the opportunity to purchase a home in Champaign-Urbana—the area she has called home for 26 years. Jovanie is currently employed at Carle Foundation Hospital where she has spent nearly four years as a phlebotomist. Outside of work, she enjoys watching sports, doing arts & crafts, and spending time with her family.

As a proud mother of three, Jovanie looks forward to being able to provide her family with the space to grow physically, mentally, and emotionally. She describes her 11-year-old son, the oldest of the three, as energetic and affectionate. Her middle child and oldest daughter, 8 years old, has a big imagination and independence. Her youngest daughter, 5 years old, is characterized as playful and observant. Jovanie hopes her children share excitement watching the transformation of their forever home being built by the hands of their mother and countless volunteers.

She acknowledges the importance of opportunities like the Habitat Homebuyer Program by sharing, “It provides families with a sense of safety, stability, and security”. One of the highlights of her journey has been interacting with new people and how the process has allowed her to create a space that truly reflects her family’s personality.

To the partners, volunteers, and organizations helping to build her home, Jovanie expresses sincere gratitude: “My heart is grateful. I would like to thank everyone for their kindness, generosity, time, energy, and skills used to build a home for me and my family.”
