Kesha Johnson is a 31 years old. She was born in Champaign, but raised in Minneapolis Minnesota by her mother and her older sister. Kesha currently lives in Champaign with her 9 year old daughter and 1 year old son, and she is employed by Maid to Perfection Residential and Professional Cleaning Services.
“It has always been my dream to become a homeowner but I didn’t realize I was ready until I moved into my apartment. Having to deal with people drinking and doing drugs in the building and shooting in the parking lot made me think – you are ready to do this for yourself and you kids. I took the big step of applying for a Habitat home and by the grace of God I received my blessing to become a partner family. My Kids and I are very excited and overwhelmed at the thought of having our very own home.“ Kesha is very proud to be able to have this opportunity to provide a solid and safe place to raise her children. She is pleased with the neighborhood her children will grow up in and the schools they will attend, and she has friends and family located nearby. It will be a blessing for her kids to be able to play outside, and for her daughter to ride her bicycle which she received over a year ago, but has been unable to use because of the unsafe conditions at their apartment complex.
Kesha’s home will be built in partnership with the First Mennonite Church of Champaign-Urbana. After attending services at the church she said she found the congregation to be warm and welcoming, and that she was very excited that they would be helping to her build her dreams.
The Johnson family home will be the 66th home built by Habitat for Humanity of Champaign County, and is being constructed in partnership with the First Mennonite Church of Champaign-Urbana.
