Susan (Suzie) Medina has resided in the Champaign-Urbana area for the past eight years, after moving here from her hometown of Rantoul. As a graduate of Urbana High school, Suzie appreciates the educational opportunities and resources that the C-U community offers. Suzie is currently a universal banker at Busey Bank. In her free time, Suzie enjoys taking pictures and visiting the park with her one year-old son and his five year-old sister.
From a young age, Suzie’s dream was to become a homeowner before the age of 26. Despite feeling like she didn’t think she would have a chance of being selected as a Habitat homeowner, Suzie pursued the opportunity after wanting better for her family. With the help of Habitat, Suzie will achieve her goal and is excited for her children to experience the home-building process. When describing the impact this experience will have on her family, Suzie says, “It’s going to make me more responsible and grateful for everything I have; I will never have to worry about my son having a roof over his head.”
While being excited to select her home finishes, Suzie says her favorite part of the Habitat experience so far has been, “Being able to even be part of the Habitat homeowner program. I was so excited to pick out my own lot!” She expresses appreciation of Habitat volunteers and donors by saying, “Words cannot explain how happy I am to be able to experience this moment. Thanks to every last one of you! Never give up on your dreams!”
Thanks to the Housing Authority of Champaign Youth Build for sponsoring the Medina family home.
