Shalunda Weatherall grew up in Champaign, graduated from Centennial High School and has worked for the past 23 years at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center in Urbana. Shalunda loves the Champaign-Urbana community, particularly the neighborhood where she grew up, where according to Shalunda, “we all became one big family and it’s still that way today.”
Shalunda has two children, a 22 year-old son and a 15 year-old daughter and it is Shalunda’s hope that the experience building their home with Habitat for Humanity leaves a lasting impression on them both. Says Shalunda, “I want my children to see that others are paying it forward to help us on our journey and I pray that it will inspire them to do the same.”
Shalunda loves spending time with family, going to the movies, reading her Bible, and singing with her fellow congregation members at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. She is looking forward to inviting family and close friends over for dinner once her house is completed, so Shalunda can, in her words, “celebrate my blessing with them”.
“I greatly appreciate each and every person that has played a part of helping my family and I on this journey of making our dream become reality. We could never say thank you enough and we pray that each of you are blessed beyond measures.”
