House #146
Ticcorra Davison is a proud lifelong member of the community, with family deeply rooted in Urbana for generations. Now, through homeownership, her family will continue to flourish and give back to the community she was raised in. Ticcorra is currently employed as a culinary worker at the University of Illinois, where she has dedicated nearly a decade of service. Combining her listening skills and passion for helping other, she also holds a Home Care Aide Certification. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, puzzles, and tending to her 12 houseplants.
Ticcorra is grateful for the opportunity for a hand-up that will allow her to be more available to her family, live in a healthier environment, and accomplish future goals. She is a proud mother of three children – two daughters and one son – each with their own unique personalities that fill their home with love. Her oldest daughter is 24 and like a second mom to the family. Her 18-year-old son is described as a “gentle giant”, viewing the world though sound and has a passion for cars. Her youngest daughter, characterized as a social butterfly, is often busy playing three sports and three instruments. Through this experience, Ticcorra hopes her children will see what it is like to believe in yourself and how others took their time to give back to strangers. “I tell my kids—you get back what you put out,” she says.
One of her favorite parts of the process has been working alongside the dedicated staff and volunteers who make homeownership possible for families like hers, sharing, “I’ve shopped at Habitat for years and the friendliness of the staff is unchanged. Everyone is excited for you, and we’re introduced to shoppers as future homeowners which is motivating”.
To the partners, volunteers, and organizations helping to build her home, Ticcorra offers a heartfelt thank you. “THANK YOU for selecting my family, giving me the tools to repair my credit, gain financial literacy, taking a chance on what some think is a liability, and giving me a hand up to become better. Your dedication to a cause will be the reason I can be proud to stand as the head of my household and give thanks. My belief in my faith is all I had at times and your belief in faith is what brought us together.”
