Little Family

Home #145

Yolanda Little has been a proud member of the Champaign-Urbana area for 25 years, appreciating the safety of her community that has allowed her to peacefully raise her six children. With a deep-rooted desire to help others, Yolonda currently works as a Student Support Assistant for Champaign Unit 4 Schools where she enjoys serving the students of her community.

Yolanda enjoys outdoor sports like swimming, pickleball, and volleyball; but more than anything, she enjoys spending time with her family. The Little Family includes six children, with four that have moved out to adulthood and two still at home. Her youngest son, 18, plays high school football and plans to continue with college football in Minnesota. Her youngest daughter, 15, loves to cook and wants to pursue culinary arts. Yolanda hopes that during the homebuilding process her children will see that hard work and being true to yourself pays off in the end, but most of all, that faith carries us through.

For years, Yolonda has seen photos and stories of local families that worked with Habitat for Humanity for the life changing opportunity to become homeowners. After taking a chance and applying, she expresses gratitude for the opportunity to start over and create a safe, stable place her family can proudly call home. “This will change my life forever knowing that my children will always have a home of their own for years to come,” she says.

Some of the highlights of her journey have been meeting new people and working alongside the dedicated staff and volunteers who make homeownership possible for families like hers. She shares, “They really work with you to be successful in the program and are always a call, text, or email away”. The process has also brought excitement as she imagines a space of her own.

To the partners, volunteers, and organizations helping to build her home, Yolanda offers a heartfelt thank you: “To everyone that helped with this wonderful chance at a new life, thank you for your hard work. Our dream home would not be possible without y’all!”
